We run a number of band based workshops for ages 8 and upwards, including one for adults. Workshops are suitable for guitarists, bassists, drummers and vocalists and the session is split so that students spend some time in their own instrument group and some time in a band situation, either focusing on live performance, songwriting or recording depending on the workshop.
Different workshops are available for 8-11 year olds, 11-17 year olds and adults and are split into beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. If you are uncertain which level would be suitable, please visit our ‘Choose Your Level’ page for some rough guidelines or call us on 01372 740 300.

Under 11s
Beginners To Band Members Under 11s
Level: Beginners, age 8-10
Dates: Friday 1st October-Friday 10th December (10 weeks)
Time: 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm (60 minutes)
Price: £120 (introductory offer, £99 for first time students)
An introductory workshop for 8-10 year olds. Students will learn 3-4 popular and classic rock songs as well as basic instrument and performance skills.
Suitable for complete beginners and students with some existing knowledge.

Step Up On Stage
Level: Intermediate, age 8-10

Time: 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm (60 minutes)

Intermediate workshop for 8-10 year olds, designed to build confidence in young musicians while improving musicial ability. Step Up On Stage focuses on live performance and aims to break the early stages of learning an instrument into manageable pieces while remaining fun.
Suitable for under 11s with at least 6 months playing experience, or who have been on Beginners To Band Members Under 11s.

Realistic Rock Band
Level: Intermediate, age 11-17

Time: 11:00 am -12:30 pm (90 minutes)

A more challenging workshop for intermediate level musicians, focused on band skills, set list building and live performance. Students will learn 6-8 songs including lead and solo parts and are encouraged to try out backing vocals.
Suitable as a follow on from Beginners To Band Members, beginner and intermediate group lessons and for musicians who have been playing for at least a year.

Realistic Record Deal
Level: Advanced, age 11-17
Dates: Saturday 2nd October-Saturday 11th December (10 weeks)
Time: 1:00 pm -2:30 pm (90 minutes)
Price: £199
Songwriting and recording workshop for advanced musicians. The workshop includes a number of sessions focused on different aspects of songwriting, after which students will form bands and then write and record their own song in our in-house recording studio. The song will be released on the Realistic Rock website, where friends and family can download it to raise money for a charity.
Suitable as a follow on from Realistic Rock Band and all intermediate and advanced group lessons or as recommended by Realistic Rock.

Adults
Remastered
Level: Adults, basic instrument knowledge and some playing experience.
Dates: Thursday 30th September-Thursday 2nd December, plus showcase date TBC (10 weeks)
Time: 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm (120 minutes)
Price: £240
A music workshop for adults, focused on live performance and set list building. Students will usually learn 6-8 songs, culminating in a live gig at a local music venue on the last week. Perfect for building confidence, learning new songs and meeting other musicians.
We recommend that students have some basic knowledge of their instrument and playing experience so although not suitable for complete beginners, relatively new musicians are welcome.
